What is a “Planar” reserve parachute?
The G-Lite 2 introduces a completely new concept of reserve parachute — the Planar type, developed and refined by Gin Gliders. This new generation is based on an innovative anti-billow technology using triangular ribs arranged in a cross shape. Thanks to this clever design, the canopy maintains an almost flat upper surface, significantly reducing ballooning when under tension. This optimization increases the projected surface by about 30%, resulting in an excellent sink rate with a smaller flat surface and a more compact packing volume. In practice, this design provides superior aerodynamic efficiency and unprecedented performance for a reserve parachute.
Stable and oscillation-free descent
The G-Lite 2 features a square design specifically engineered to minimize pendular motion during descent. With remarkable roll and yaw stability, it ensures a smooth, steady, and controlled descent even in the most turbulent conditions. This level of control is a key safety factor, giving the pilot clear visual references and a sense of calm, even in high-stress emergency situations.
Simplicity, efficiency and reliability
Designed with a philosophy of functional minimalism, the G-Lite 2 features a simplified structure with fewer panels and reduced stitching. This clean construction makes folding more intuitive, reduces the risk of errors, and ensures quick and reliable deployment. Every detail has been optimized for faster opening and a consistent, stable inflation in all conditions. This technical approach, both simple and precise, reinforces the pilot’s confidence when it matters most.
High-quality materials and durability
The G-Lite 2 is made from premium materials, identical to those used in other Gin Gliders reserve parachutes. The fabrics are chosen for their tear and moisture resistance, while the lines ensure excellent dimensional stability. Together, they form a reliable, consistent, and durable system that maintains its performance over time, even after multiple repackings. It’s a trustworthy piece of equipment for both regular pilots and those who want to fly safely without compromising on quality.
Lightweight design and minimal packing volume
Thanks to its innovative planar structure and lightweight construction, the G-Lite 2 weighs less than the previous generation while offering greater compactness. These improvements make it easier to transport and integrate into modern harnesses, whose containers are often narrower. This reduced volume does not compromise performance — it reflects a smart material optimization and improved overall efficiency.
Optimized sizes and improved weight range
Although its flat surface has been reduced, the G-Lite 2 retains the same certified weight ranges as its predecessor. Even better, its sink rate has been improved thanks to the optimization of Planar Rescue technology. This innovation maintains a slow and stable descent without increasing fabric surface, while significantly reducing the packing volume.
The result: a more compact, lighter, and higher-performing reserve parachute.
Flat folding and increased compatibility
The G-Lite 2 is designed to be folded in a flat rectangular shape, perfectly suited to most modern harness containers. This design choice simplifies packing, improves compatibility with current harnesses, and ensures a clean and secure setup. As a result, the G-Lite 2 integrates naturally into your gear while maintaining a quick and controlled deployment when needed.
