Learn to use thermals like a true cross-country pilot! This thermal performance course helps you understand the conditions, center thermals efficiently, and stay in the air longer. Supervised by thermal flight professionals, you’ll gain in piloting finesse, sky reading, and confidence to extend your flights.
● WHERE: Lumbin, Saint-Hilaire-du-Touvet and surrounding areas
● FOR WHOM? Autonomous pilot with full equipment
● PREREQUISITES: At least the initial pilot certificate / Ability to use thermals
● WHEN? See the course schedule
Tired of spending more time in the shuttle than in the air?
The Thermal Performance Course is made for you! It will teach you how to use thermal lift to extend your flight duration and fully enjoy the sky.
Designed for already autonomous pilots, this course will help you deeply understand the mechanics of thermals, how to read them, and the centering techniques to stay in the air longer and make the most of every flight.
Our Air et Aventure Academy paragliding school benefits from an exceptional training site in Saint-Hilaire-du-Touvet, a legendary free-flying spot whose reputation has long crossed French borders. The ideal setting to progress, understand aerology, and enjoy the pleasure of extended flights!
The Thermal Performance Course aims to help already autonomous pilots extend their flights by learning to use thermal lift.
In short, here are the main objectives of your Thermal Performance paragliding course:
➡️ Learn to circle in a thermal smoothly and efficiently
➡️ Understand how thermal aerology works and how it affects your flight
➡️ Learn to choose the right sites and times according to your level to make the most of the best lift conditions
➡️ Develop your piloting skills to fully exploit thermals and extend your airtime
➡️ Learn to land safely out in the field by identifying and preparing potential landing zones
By the end of the course, the student should be able to understand, use, and circle in thermals to extend flights in full autonomy and safety.
On the agenda for your Thermal Performance course: a week combining intensive practice, applied theory and in-flight analysis, to help you better understand the mechanics of thermals and make the most of them.
Program includes:
Note: Paragliding is an aerial sport subject to weather conditions. The program may change depending on meteorological and aerological conditions.
Making your flights last longer is every pilot’s dream!
But it also means learning to fly in more dynamic aerological conditions.
That’s why we’ve built our teaching method on gradual progression and step-by-step validation, so that each pilot can enjoy flying while staying safe.
This is the main site we use, located just a few steps from the city of Grenoble, on the edge of the Chartreuse, facing Belledonne and close to the Vercors.
This site is perfectly suited for this type of course. With large take-off areas in the village of Saint-Hilaire du Touvet and a vast landing field in Lumbin, the setting is ideal for both beginners and the most experienced paragliders.
