The carabiner is a common accessory in many technical outdoor activities, such as climbing. In paragliding, its main function is to link the harness to the glider or, in other cases, to the reserve parachute. There are various types of carabiner, including flexible, rigid, self-closing and screw-type
A carabiner must be able to withstand a load equivalent to the strength of the anchor points on which it is mounted.
The Niviuk 30 mm Auto Carabiner features an aluminum alloy self-locking system. This feature is widely used in free flight, as it facilitates handling in flight. What's more, they're extremely lightweight, which is no mean feat. Their design is similar to that of climbing and mountaineering carabiners, and incorporates all their functions.
This self-locking carabiner features an inclined opening that makes it much easier to fit straps. It is optimized for a 30 mm width. Also available in 40 mm width. Its main pin is designed to withstand a working load of 20 kN.
Aluminum carabiners are sensitive to fatigue failure. When paragliding, you are constantly suspended from the connectors, but the load is not constant. When you're in flight, the load on the connectors varies according to weight and acceleration. This is known as the "fatigue" phenomenon, as the connectors are alternately loaded and unloaded.
Niviuk Auto carabiners have a maximum service life of 5 years or 500 hours of use.
Caution: Do not use these carabiners in tandem flight on the "spreader-wing " link or on any link connected to the tandem reserve parachute.
